The performance on Saturday, June 27th, will be the special, dedicated fundraising performance, and will feature CFCC Merit Scholar Ava Johnson, who will perform with Uptown Easy. About Gift of Education and Student Scholarships
The Gift of Education initiative was launched 15 years ago, in 2005. This program, which is entirely donor supported, raises funds to provide scholarships to Cape Fear Community College students. Since its inception, the program has raised $1.3 million, and provided scholarships to more than 2,200 students. Over the last decade and a half, more than 4,500 guests have attended this annual fund-raising event.
In 2019 the program raised nearly $300,000, which supported scholarships for 1,053 students in 148 programs across the college. Due to the downturn in the economy and high levels of unemployment, many people are seeking training or new career paths. The college projects record-breaking numbers of applications for financial aid for the upcoming fall semester – these newly enrolled students, however, will not be eligible for any of the federal aid made possible through the CARES Act.
This year, due to state and local health restrictions, the Foundation has partnered with the Wilson Center to put on a special fund-raising concert as part of the Wilson Center Drive-In Concerts rather than its traditional fund-raising breakfast. Proceeds from this concert, as well as any additional donations, will go to support student scholarships. Attendees at any of the Drive-In Concerts may donate to support education directly via their mobile phones, through a text-to-give option. Those who wish to do so may simply text “GOE” to 44321. An online portal will also be available to allow donations to be made online at cfcc.edu/goe .
